Neither is worse or better, as its apples to oranges kinda situation.īoth offer MIDI mapping capabilities so you can set up a bunch of triggers on a single keypress when switching between looks. You can think of Resolume more as a mixer and Synesthesia more as synth.

Resolume has some built-in generators that you can make visuals with but is much more geared towards triggering either existing clips or video feeds (you can for example feed synesthesia into Resolume and output from there) and applying effects. You can work around this by fading to and from black when changing scenes but this would require some setup and not be super flexible. You can switch between different presets with midi, but Synesthesia does not currently have a way to transition between different scenes without a hard cut and a little bit of stutter.

Synesthesia offers you audio reactive scenes with parameters that you can fiddle with. They serve quite different purposes and Resolume is much more versatile. If you're looking to buy one or the other and wish to use it for live performances I would go for Resolume. Could someone more experience explain to me their thoughts on the different use cases for these applications, as well as their pros/cons and differences?Įdit: do you think I would be able to create my own layers/loops in Lumens then run them through resolume for audio triggering? Is this a solution or is there an easier way to do this? Thanks! I've done a bit of research and it seems that Resolume is great for this, but Synesthesia seems to also work. Kind of like those trippy music videos for electronic dance music but done throughout a few hours of DJing. I'm not looking to set up large installations like those at Berlin Atonal or create massive live shows like Deadmau5 or Eric Prydz, I'm just looking for something that can add a little bit of extra uniqueness to my sets. Ideally there would be as little pre-planning as possible aside from selecting which assets I want played + setting up their triggers.

I am looking for an audio-reactive software that I can load assets into, where each "set" is different due to different song selection and different asset loadout. I am a DJ that is looking to bring visuals into my sets.
